MOBILITY INFORMATION FROM WHIZZ-KIDZ

Whatever sort of information you need, about the kind of disabilities that affect children, the difference that mobility equipment makes, guidance on how to choose mobility equipment or how to apply for it, information on children's rights and Government initiatives, or if you want to know about some of the key projects run by Whizz-Kidz, we're here to help.

Here, you'll find plenty of information on subjects that you often ask us about. Some of the pages are easy to print off as fact sheets to help you make decisions about mobility equipment or your rights. There are also useful contact addresses and links to other organisations that can help.

Fact Sheets and reports for parents and carers
Parents of disabled children and young people have produced fact sheets aimed at parents and carers of disabled children that give practical advice and tips on a range of issues.

These were produced alongside the Audit Commission's publication of the report 'Services for disabled children', that looks at how local services provide for disabled children, young people and their families in England and Wales.

The study finds that: there is a lottery of provision, depending on where you live; service provision is rarely based on the individual needs of families; and families have to go through a maze of services to get essential information. It concludes that to improve the situation, the following need to be achieved:

  • Services meet families' needs
  • Families participate in everyday life
  • Services recognise that children grow and move on
  • Service recognise, recruit and develop the right people
