KIDS
& FISH We should all know that
the oils in Salmon Tuna and other
fatty fish are rich in omega-3 fatty acids. These moega-3 acids play an
important role in cardiovascular health care. Unfortunately
researchers don’t know yet what amounts of
fish-oil supplements are safer for children. These supplements are
potent
biological compounds and if children take them as a supplement instead
of
through food there could be unexpected effects. The chair of the
American
Academy of Paediatrics Committee on Nutrition, Dr Nancy Krebs, suggests
that
you should keep offering kids fish even if they initially turn their
noses up
at it, Children can learn to eat anything but only if you keep trying
letting
them try it. It can, according to
research, take as many as 10 to 15
attempts before a child will start to eat fish, so don’t give up. How much omega-3 kids
need daily is not exactly known so,
if you can serve foods regularly that have this compound, so much the
better. Other foods that can
also be converted to omega-3 by the
body includes walnuts, flaxseed and walnut, canola and flaxseed oils.
The
latter can be used for cooking your kids’ favourite foods. |
