The Trust

The Trust was set up in memory of John Hardy, a larger than life character within the Sports Industry. John was born in 1946 but unfortunately passed away at an early age (55) from, amongst other things, a heart condition.

To John education was very important, but too late he realised that exercise, fitness and a good diet were also important to maintain one's lifestyle. He finally concluded that smoking and drinking are not helpful in developing a healthy body but are, especially in the young, dangerous pursuits.

John was an Accountant with many interests but work was the one that ruled his life. Whilst he enjoyed a game of snooker and flying model airplanes his business always came first. Throughout his short life he helped many people and associations but especially those involving young people. He was grandfather to four girls and was often heard to say that 'kids were for spoiling' but obviously only in the best of ways and for the right reasons.

He regularly assisted the local school by donating such items as football kits and netball outfits; plus he helped the Out of School club with sports and active play equipment as well as donating to the NSPCC, one of many children's charities that he supported.

In 1998 he helped his wife set up www.exercise.co.uk, a web site offering exercise, fitness and leisure equipment for all ages and abilities. Whilst the Exercise web site is predominately a retail site it is also informative and offers an assortment of information that helps, not just youngsters, although they are a priority, but all people, regardless of age or ability, to be active and healthy.

The aim of The John Hardy Trust is to work closely with young people's groups in an effort to help develop fit and active children, as well as actively encouraging health, well-being and the social inclusion of our future citizens.

The Trust is a fitting memorial to a true Yorkshire gentleman.
